CA Assessment of Student Progress (CAASPP) - a system intended to provide information that can be used to monitor student progress and ensure that all students leave high school ready for college and career. Students in grades 3-8 and 11 take the ELA/Math assessment. Students in grades 5, 8 and 11 take the Science assessment.

 

CA Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS) - CHKS is a research-based core module that provides valid indicators to promote student engagement and achievement, safety, positive development, health, and overall well being. In addition, there are supplementary modules to choose from at the secondary school level that ask detailed questions on specific topics. 

  

CA High School Proficiency Exam (CHSPE) - If eligible to take the test, you can earn the legal equivalent of a high school diploma by passing the CHSPE.

 

Early Assessment Program (EAP) - A program that assesses students for college-readiness in grade 11. Also see information on EAP in CAASPP.

 

English Learners (EL) - English learners are students whose primary or home language is other than English and who are eligible for services based on the results of an English language proficiency assessment.

 

Gifted And Talented Education (GATE) - a broad term for special practices, procedures, and theories used in the education of children who have been identified as gifted or talented.

 

General Education Development (GED) - for those without a High School Diploma. Study and take a battery of tests to certify your aptitude, knowledge and skills. It is designed for those that never finished high school.

 

High School Equivalency Test (HiSET) - for those without a High School Diploma. Based on college and career readiness. 

 

Physical Fitness Test (PFT) - for students in California schools the PFT is the FITNESSGRAM.The main goal of the test is to help students in starting life-long habits of regular physical activity. Students in grades five, seven, and nine take the fitness test.

 

Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC) - A high school equivalency test.
